VISITOR VISA

Most foreign citizens need a visitor visa to travel to Canada, and all foreign citizens must ensure they have the necessary documents to enter the country. In addition, a visitor visa may be required even if the traveler is transiting through a Canadian airport en route to another destination.

However, there are foreign citizens from certain countries who are exempt from this visa requirement. For those foreign citizens who are exempt from the visitor visa, they normally require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.

A Temporary Resident Visa is an official document that is added to a foreign citizen’s passport and shows that the person meets the necessary requirements to enter Canada.

Most visitors can stay up to six months in Canada with visitor status. However, at the port of entry (i.e., the first point the visitor enters Canada), the border services officer may restrict the visitor’s stay to less than six months. If so, the date the traveler must leave Canada will be printed in their passport, or the visitor may be given a document, called a Visitor Record, which will show the date the visitor is to leave the country.

Foreign citizens must ensure they have the necessary documents when applying for a visitor visa through the Canadian Embassy corresponding to their country of residence.
