STUDY PERMIT

A foreign citizen who wishes to immigrate to Canada temporarily to study at one of the Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) may apply for a study permit. To qualify for a study permit, a foreign citizen must meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in a designated learning institution

• Provide proof of financials to cover the applicant’s tuition costs, living expenses for the applicant and any family members traveling to Canada with the applicant, and return transportation costs for the applicant and all family members who will accompany the applicant to Canada

• Submit a police certificate and medical examination (in some cases)

• Demonstrate to the immigration officer that the applicant will leave Canada once the study permit expires

A foreign national residing in China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Vietnam, Senegal, or the Philippines may be able to receive a study permit faster by applying online through the Student Direct Stream (SDS). The program has certain conditions and requirements when applying for a study permit.
